How Often Should You Restripe a Parking Lot?
5 min read

Faded lines confuse drivers and can put you out of ADA compliance. Here's how to know when it's time to restripe.
A general rule
Most lots need restriping every 12 to 24 months. Busy retail centers, drive-throughs, and lots with heavy truck traffic may need it every year.
Signs it's time
Lines are faded or hard to see at night or in the rain. Fire lanes and ADA markings are worn. You just sealcoated, since sealcoat covers old lines. Or you want to change your layout to add stalls or improve traffic flow.
Paint vs. thermoplastic
Waterborne traffic paint is the most common choice and costs the least. Thermoplastic is melted onto the surface, is thicker, and lasts much longer in high-traffic areas like crosswalks and stop bars.
Don't forget ADA
Accessible stalls, access aisles, and signs must meet ADA and Texas (TDLR) rules. Restriping is a good time to check that you have the right number of accessible and van-accessible stalls.
Quick questions
Can you restripe without sealcoating?
Yes. If the asphalt is in good shape, we can paint right over the old lines.
Will my lot need to close?
Traffic paint dries in minutes to an hour. We can work at night or in sections to keep you open.
